Welcome to the Essential Lifestyle Blog! We are so happy that you clicked in to join us on our wellness journey. Whether we've been longtime friends, or have not yet met, this space is for YOU. We want to hear where you're at in your wellness journey or life in general.
My name is Katy. I'm a Midwestern girl born and raised in Michigan, but chased a guy to Duluth, Minnesota in 2014. That guy became my husband over 2 years ago. We're proud parents of an emotional boxer/lab mix named Yogi and a goofy bernese mountain dog named Everest. They'll be sure to make an appearance throughout the site! When I'm not sniffing essential oils you can find me cooking, exploring the newest craft brewery, doing yoga, or laying in my hammock. And THAT is what this blog is about. True wellness is about living day to day to your fullest potential; mind, body, and spirit.
Tessa and I have been through a lot together as co-workers, friends, and life-cheerleaders. Our journey has led us here with you. We welcome comments and questions, so leave us a message as we'd love to hear from you!
So it all started with my sister wanting to see an artist that was performing in Ft Lauderdale & it turned into a family weekend away. I won’t oppose to going somewhere I haven’t been, so I agreed! I have been to Florida a fair share of times, but mostly in the Orlando & Clearwater Beach areas, so it was nice to go somewhere new. I find myself working, relaxing and enjoying food & beverage more than anything else during these long weekends away. I get to do all of it alongside a pool!
We arrived in Ft Lauderdale around 1pm on Thursday, and left around 3pm on Saturday. We checked into our room at the Hotel Morrison which I LOVED. I was blown away by this hotel. It is a newer build and is a part of Choice Hotels under their Acend classification. They had everything - a free continental breakfast, spacious rooms, outdoor pool, bar in the lobby. What more could I need? I would highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting the Ft Lauderdale area. The only downside is that it’s not downtown, but it’s only a 15-20 minute drive. It’s super close to the airport and they have a shuttle!
I really enjoyed the downtown area in Ft Lauderdale. There’s something for everyone. Restaurants & Bars, Boutiques, Art Galleries. It was such an awesome area we went on both Thursday and Friday!
On our last full day, we decided to visit the Stranahan House which was probably my favorite thing that we did. I have a love for older houses and this one is the oldest in Ft Lauderdale. The tour guides were amazing and knowledgeable - the tour was only $12 for adults! I learned so much about the Stranahan Family & Ft Lauderdale and how it was founded and formed.
After the tour of the house we decided to go to the beach & grab some lunch. We never struggled with finding a good place to eat.
Overall, the trip was enjoyable. It’s nice to get away for a long weekend and I’m so blessed that my jobs allow me to do just that. It’s always nicer to work poolside in 85 degree weather!
Where’s your favorite place to travel to?
